Thirsk Racing

Many consider North Yorkshire to be one of the most beautiful regions in the United Kingdom, if not Europe. It is a place of history, green rolling countryside and warm people. Thirsk Racing is defined by these elements which sit aside the elegant power of those magnificent thoroughbred horses which come to race each other to the winning post.

Thirsk Racing, inside rail The racecourse boasts 14 separate days of the finest flat races in the region. These run from April to the beginning of September.

Although the dates change slightly from year to year, the racecourse has tried to keep them as close together as possible, and the fixtures can be found on the same day of the week, on a date closest to the preceding years.

From families hoping to sit back with a picnic hamper and enjoy an exciting spectacle without having to take it too seriously and serious punters who play the odds, to those who like to test the creative limits of their milliner and lay wagers based on the name of a horse or the colour of a jockey’s silks, Thirsk Racing has something for everyone.

Racegoers who live nearby, or within a reasonable distance, and have long since capitulated to the charms of the ‘Sport of Kings’, are generally those who have already purchased their Membership. Members are entitled to enjoy all the most refined and exclusive parts of this lovely racecourse. Those who want access to the same lovely fine dining, lofty views of the winning post and the collar and tie conversation, can purchase Club Enclosure badges for a day or more, and they can enjoy this fine North Yorkshire equestrian racecourse in the most sophisticated way.

Culinary options for Club Enclosure badge holders include the Champagne and Seafood Bar and the Hambleton Dining Room. The Seafood Bar offers exceptional views of the Thirsk Racing action, and, if you book in advance, great packages are available.

Typical packages include Club Admission, so it might be worth considering, especially if you’re a fan of great seafood and meat dishes. The package also includes a tote betting voucher.

Racegoers looking to secure a table for the day will certainly want to book a package with the Hambleton Restaurant.

Club Admission is included in the price, as are the day’s meals, from morning coffee with biscuits right through to afternoon tea. The 3 course lunch is not to be missed. If you’re looking for their height of raceday exclusivity, the course has five private boxes which are situated on the upper level of the grandstand. These are nearly always booked, so if you have clients you want to treat, it’s best to try and book far in advance.

The ‘Sport of Kings’ it may well be termed, but all who know their history will known that it is as much a sport for the people. Those who require little more than a hand-pulled pint and a tasty meal from the carvery while having access to the parade ring and the totes and bookmakers, as well as a view of the action from the grandstand, will need little more than a Paddock Enclosure badge. Many consider that the best way to enjoy this old equestrian sport is to dispense with Champagne conversation and get in amongst those who have a passion for seeing rider and horse close up, the scent of leather and excitement mingling in the air.

Thirsk Racing, photo finish For others, Thirsk Racing is about the chance to have a day of fun with the whole family. The Family Enclosure is a popular choice for those who simply want to bring the kids, perhaps with a fully-packed picnic basket and witness the action of the home stretch from the sidelines.

When Thirsk Racing is in full swing, during the 14 racedays of the year, it is a racecourse given over to every kind of experience which makes the sport what it is. But for the rest of the year, its exceptional facilities are able to be booked for a variety of needs.

From fairs, exhibitions and parties, to small meetings, large conferences and special corporate dinners, the venues of this North Yorkshire racecourse are both beautifully designed and able to be adapted to cater for varying needs.

Although most of the venues suggest themselves for certain layouts and types of events, they can be adapted for most requirements. The Hambleton Rooms, by way of example, are ideal for a fully-contained event, like a modestly-sized conference or a banquet where one main room and a smaller room are of use. Conferences or events on a larger scale can easily be contained within the Manton Suite. This offers two large rooms, one which sits atop the other and is accessible via stairs on either end of the ground floor. Conferences which require a communal space, perhaps with catering or exhibits, while having a second area where a traditional theatre-style seminar can be held, can take advantage of this marvelous venue. There’s no need to venture out for anything; although the Garden Room provides a lovely venue where to delegates can escape if they wish.

The Garden Room is also ideal for small or medium size meetings. Catering for all events and meetings can be outsourced to the reputable companies with whom the racecourse has a long relationship. As always, guests of this North Yorkshire conference and events venue will having nothing less than the warm and efficient service of an experienced team on hand to ensure that everyone feels welcome.
